Zweena®
John V. Phelan, a health care executive and entrepreneur, founded the Princeton-based health technology company Zweena in 2006 and serves as its CEO. Zweena is a hybrid Digital Personal Health Record company that collects, organizes and digitizes a consumer's paper health records. www.zweenahealth.com is the company's public site. With the national health care landscape continually evolving, the seamless convergence of technology and health care records is critical. Zweena clients enrolled from twelve states. John works with hospitals especially with "meaningful use" and the ARRA Stimulus program (known as HITECH). He also consults with health systems on how to execute the ability for their consumers to view their newly digitized health records. Other Zweena business segments include home care, medical tourism companies, and employers who are self-insured.
Prior to founding Zweena, John held leadership positions for ten years at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and for six years at Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals in Princeton, New Jersey, where he received national recognition for his achievements. His pharmaceutical experience has provided him with a broad perspective on the life sciences industry, from national managed care to retail trade.
Prior to his career in US health care, John was a volunteer with the US Peace Corps in Morocco, where he was Executive Director for a private health facility/home that housed, rehabilitated and educated boys with polio. John holds a B.A. in Economics and English Literature from Columbia College, Columbia University, New York, New York. He is a member of both HIMSS and AHIMA, as well as a Tiger Team member for HITSP. John has spoken and participated on health panels including NJTC (New Jersey Technology Council), The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, and Columbia Business School's Entrepreneurial Alumni group. He is a member of the WHYY Health and Science Advisory Board. For fun, John loves to sing with Princeton Pro Musica, and currently serves as their Board President. John is married and has four great children who love ballet, the performing arts, soccer and traveling.
